Golden Triangle in 5 Days: A Realistic Itinerary

Delhi, Agra and Jaipur in five days without spending three of them in the car. Here's a pace that actually works.

The Golden Triangle gets compressed into three-day sprints more often than it should. Five days is the difference between seeing the Taj Mahal and actually experiencing it — here's a route that keeps the driving sane and the mornings unrushed.

Day 1 — Delhi

Old Delhi in the morning — Jama Masjid, Chandni Chowk, a cycle-rickshaw through the lanes if you've got the nerve — then New Delhi's wider boulevards in the afternoon: India Gate, Humayun's Tomb, Qutub Minar if there's time before the light goes.

Day 2 — Delhi to Agra

A 3–4 hour drive down the Yamuna Expressway, ideally leaving early enough to check in and rest before an afternoon at Agra Fort. Save the Taj itself for the next morning — the light and the crowd size are both better before 8am.

Day 3 — Agra to Jaipur, via Fatehpur Sikri

Sunrise at the Taj Mahal, then the road to Jaipur with a stop at Fatehpur Sikri, Akbar's abandoned red-sandstone capital — an hour is enough to see it properly without eating into the drive.

Day 4 — Jaipur

Amber Fort at opening time, before the tour buses arrive, then the City Palace, Hawa Mahal from the street outside, and the bazaars of the old Pink City in the afternoon for block-print textiles and jewellery.

Day 5 — Jaipur to Delhi

A slower morning — Jantar Mantar or a last bazaar pass — before the 5–6 hour drive back to Delhi for an evening flight out.

Five days means no city gets rushed and no day is entirely swallowed by the road. If you've got a few extra days, Ranthambore slots neatly onto the end for a safari before flying home.
